Herdade do Portocarro is one of the most singular wine projects in Portugal. Close to the Atlantic, and halfway between the Setubal Peninsula and the Alentejo region, this 142ha property with a 18 ha vineyard produces wines in a territory where no other wine projects have been attempted). Its owner and winemaker, José da Mota Capitão, influenced and inspired by biodynamic viticulture, is trying to recover extinct indigenous grapes as well as experimenting with the classic Portuguese varieties, producing wines with a unique and innovative touch and character.
