Madeira is known as the Hawaii of Europe. In the late 1800s many Madeirans set sail for Hawaii to work in the growing sugar cane industry. Madeira already had a long history of sugar cane production and a very similar sub-tropical climate to Hawaii which made Madeirans ideal workers for this job.
They became known as Pukiki to native Hawaiians and influenced Hawaiian culture in many ways, most famously by introducing the Ukulele (known as machete in Madeira) and malassadas.
Pukiki Tiki Bar celebrates the link between the islands. We are passionate about all things tropical, mid-century Polynesian Pop, Tiki cocktails and Rum based drinks made from sugar cane.
