Algarve WaterWorld has two airboats – you know – James Bond, CSI Miami? – operating on the Arade River from near the Club Naval in Portimao from 2015

Nose up narrow creeks or roar along the waterways propelled by 6.2 litres of emission controlled motor.

We pass under four bridges before accessing the upper reaches of a waterway that has seen the Phonoecians, Corsairs, Vikings, Romans and Moors as they plied their trade to Silves, an ancient castle town of great beauty.

Along the way you’ll see birds and terrapin, and perhaps stop for coffee at an isolated waterside café.

Airboats are flat-bottomed, and can move in almost no water at all. So depth is not such a big issue for us, and we can operate throughout the day on most tides.
