Acerca do Nome

A Dois Corvos presta homenagem à cidade de Lisboa, onde a cerveja é feita, e da qual os dois corvos são um símbolo inconfundível. A imagem da embarcação com dois corvos está representada um pouco por toda a cidade, da calçada ao brasão de armas de Lisboa. A imagem representa um navio com o corpo de S. Vicente, o santo padroeiro da cidade, protegido por dois corvos na sua viagem por mar em direcção a Lisboa.

Conta a lenda que após a morte de S. Vicente no século quarto, o seu corpo foi levado para o Algarve, onde foi colocado num templo. Guerras entre mouros e cristãos levaram à dizimação do templo e da povoação local. Contudo, em 1173, D. Afonso Henriques, primeiro rei de Portugal, mandou exumar o corpo do santo e S. Vicente veio por mar, guardado por dois corvos que o acompanharam durante toda a viagem.

Quem Somos

A Susana Cascais e o Scott Steffens viveram em Seattle, na costa oeste dos EUA, durante mais de uma década, antes de regressarem a Lisboa. A Susana é portuguesa e nos EUA trabalhou com uma cervejeira artesanal de larga escala, nas áreas de marketing e publicidade. O Scott fez a sua primeira cerveja em 1994 e é um aficionado da cerveja artesanal deste então.

Dois Corvos is a new brewery in Lisbon, Portugal, located in the historic neighborhood of Marvila, with a tap room open to the public.

About the Name

Dois Corvos is a symbol of Lisbon, and we have named our brewery as a tribute to the city where the beer is made. The image of a ship with two crows or dois corvos is embedded in countless sidewalks throughout the city, on lampposts, police badges, taxis, and on the Lisbon coat of arms. The image represents a ship carrying the body of St. Vincent, the patron saint of Lisbon, being protected by two crows.

After St. Vincent died in the fourth century, his body was put in a shrine in the Algarve and, according to legend, was continuously protected by two crows. In 1173, King Afonso Henriques, the first king of Portugal, had St. Vincent’s body exhumed and brought to Portugal by ship and two crows protected the saint’s remains during the journey.

About the People

Susana Cascais and Scott Steffens lived in Seattle, on the West Coast of the United States for over 10 years before returning to Lisbon. Susana, originally from Portugal, worked in the marketing and advertising side of a craft brewery in the US. Scott brewed his first batch of beer in 1994 and has been dedicated to craft beer ever since.
