People say that we, the Portuguese, are “nostalgic” by nature. Our Fado, our Nationalism and our traditions can show a bit of this feeling. We, here in the Algarve, don’t flee out of this “rule”.
With a huge pride of the history of our country, and even greater pride of the history of Albufeira which includes us who there are 50 years have had the privilege of contributing to this history thanks to our dear clients and friends.
Albufeira survived tremendous cataclysms (1755), battles, riots, and violent conflicts (1833) as well as serious social and economic crisis (1930), not to mention even older events as when it was conquered by the Romans, when it was conquered by the Arabs, and only later became part of Portugal territory (1504).
Yes, we are nostalgic ... When we remember that was in the early 60’s (1965) that we started together with Albufeira a period of entrepreneurship and ascension, beginning our hotel and restaurant activities by exploiting the Sol e Mar hotel and “O Fernando” restaurant, and although we were still felling the existing crisis, we believed in the Tourism potential due to the natural beauty of our landscape and the friendliness of our people. In our nostalgia and love for this land, we really have a lot to be thankful for.
We are really grateful for those who visited and visit us and spend with us a little of their time enjoying this amazing place. We are gratefull for those on holydays and also for those who are here during short business visits. We feel flattered and honored with so many friends who come here to encourage us to do better and better.
It is on behalf of our customers and friends and because we are traditionally Portuguese people (naturally affectionate and nostalgic) that we decided to start this campaign: Adding the best of our history and our culture to the very best of contemporary time. To preserve our identity but also welcome with wide open arms all the cultural diversity and richness that come to us through these many visitors from all over the world.
For 50 years our customers and friends have honored us making it possible to be part of the Downtown history. It is now our turn to thank and honor them (you) by preserving our tradition and Portuguese culture showing them (to you) and to the world what we do best. Thus, we are committed to at least for another half century, to serve in our typical Portuguese (and Albufeirense) way to be. We hope to see you here at Downtown, you are very welcome!
