Founded in the 12th century, in the era of king D. Afonso Henriques, the Mosteiro de S. Cristóvão de Lafões belonged to the Cistercian Order until 1834, when it was extinguished. Sold by public auction, the old Monastery became progressively run-down, until it was bought in 1982 by its current owners. Since then, it undergone into a careful restoration work, respecting monastic spaces and environments, such as the cloister in a Tuscan style or the beautiful architecture of its conventual church, embellished with remarkable paintings. Located at the feet of Serra da Arada, the Monastery now combines high comfort standards
with great historical interest, offering excellent accommodations in the lovely scenery of the Lafões’ region.
