O Remoinho

The reMOINHO is an ancient windmill adapted as a house and entirely remodeled in 2014. It is located at the small fishing village Ericeira, at a 5 minutes walk distance from the town center and nearest beaches.

It is about 500 years old and is a typical portuguese windmill used to grind cereals over the years.

Due to its privileged location in the West coast, this windmill has served as a land reference point for navigation over the centuries. For that, it is referenced in the portuguese navy still today.

Ericeira is about 35 Km (22 mi) northwest of the capital Lisbon, 18 Km from Sintra and 8 Km from Mafra. The local beaches, such as Ribeira d’Ilhas or Praia dos Coxos, are widely recognized for being exceptionally good for surfing. For that, Ericeira became the 2nd World Surfing Reserve and 1st of Europe.
