About PGC

The Punjab Group of Colleges established its first facility, the Punjab College of Commerce. In 1985 in Muslim Town on Canal Bank in Lahore, followed a few years later by the Punjab Law College. Since then the Punjab Group (PGC) has successfully branched out into various cities of Punjab. Following arrangements with foreign accredited universities, Punjab College of Business Administration (PCBA) was established in 1991 and Punjab Institute of Computer Science (PICS), in 1993, at Lahore. Both institutions emerged as highly specialized schools, training individuals as successful professional managers and computer scientists.

With a view to meeting academic needs of students, the Group went ahead and established another network in various cities of the Punjab by the name of ‘Punjab College of Information Technology’ (PCIT), the first having been established in Lahore in 2000. The Group has within a period of 28 years, not only established as many as 282 campuses of Punjab Colleges in 77 cities, 3 universities and 350+ schools but has also earned reputation as the largest network of highly vibrant and progressive institutions in the country. Mohammed Ali Jinnah University in Sindh and the University of Central Punjab are both chartered universities of the Group and are being rated very high in their respective domains. All these Institutions together have more than 2,79,000 students on rolls.

About Punjab Colleges

Since the establishment of first College of Commerce in 1985, the network of Punjab Colleges has grown from a single college to the largest network of private colleges in Commerce, IT and Science Disciplines with 70 colleges in thirty one cities of Pakistan. The pioneering spirit and steadfastness of the founders is reflected in its richly earned traditions of excellence and its series of huge successes.

At the Bachelor's level, the Punjab University Degree is awarded to B.Com students. At Intermediate level, students receive an I.Com Certification from the Boards of Intermediate and Secondary Education.

For students desirous of pursuing science subjects, Punjab Colleges of Science were set up in all the major cities of Punjab where students mainly study F.Sc. Pre-engineering and Pre-medical courses. Co-Curricular Activities

Quiz Programmes:

Quiz programmes are an integral part of the academic session of the college. They aim at providing entertainment and education to the students at the same time because the questions asked in these programmes are set from the syllabus. These programmes assist students so much in preparation of exams that most of the board toppers are former quiz winners. Many eminent educationists and scholars are invited in these programmes as guests of honour in order to share their experience with the future generation.

Debates:

The Literary Society of the College organizes debate competitions every year on burning issues in order to polish the communication skills and confidence of the students. Judges are the celebrities from different walks of life.

Mehfil-e-Milad:

The life of our beloved prophet Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH) has always been a beacon of light for the humanity. In order to pay homage to the Holy Prophet (PBUH), the college organizes a Mehfil- e- Milad every year during the last decade of Ramadan. Students of the college glorify the greatness of the life and the teachings of the Prophet (PBUH) in their passionate voices. This sacred gathering is so well arranged that it is telecast on several private TV channels afterwards.

Annual Mushaira:

Annual Mushaira is yet another co-curricular event aimed at enhancing and applauding the creative literary spirit of the youth. Students feel elevated when they get an opportunity to recite their poetic effort before the prominent literary figures of the country. Distinguished poets like Ahmad Faraz, Anwer Masood, Amjad Islam Amjad, Ahmad Nadeem Qasmi, Atta ul Haq Qasmi, Saad Ullah Shah, Farhat Abbas Shah and other literary figures of the country often adorn the mushaira evenings with their charismatic presence.

Musical Concerts:

Musical concerts are like whiffs of fresh breeze that break the tiresome and hectic routine of studies at the college. Both students and teachers enjoy such musical evenings a lot. Many heartthrob singers and bands of the nation like Atif Aslam, Ibrar ul Haq, Junoon, Najam Sheraz and Faakhir amuse the audience off and on with their memorable performance.

Cultural Festivals:

To revive our cultural norms in the era of prevailing foreign influence, the college plays its part by organizing cultural festivals every year. The trademark features of these festivals include different sports events, stalls, regional dresses' competitions and various other cultural and entertaining activities.

Sports:

The students of Punjab College excel in co-curricular and extra curricular activities alike in the Annual Sports Day of the College. Students compete for badminton, cricket, cycling, shot put, athletics, tug of war, etc. The day starts with a colourful and disciplined march past of the participating houses and ends with a ceremonious prize distribution. Such activities inculcate discipline and sportsmanship in the students so much so that they ultimately win the general trophies of the board and the university every year.

Al-Razi, the College Magazine,

The College Magazine, Al-Razi covers all the academic and co- curricular activities on one hand and it gives opportunity to the students of the college to explore and polish their hidden capabilities on the other hand. The students in the editorial board also learn how to work in a group with their teachers. The Magazine is a complete book having literary, humorous, and scientific works of the students as well as teachers.

Tours:

Recreational trips to Murree, Kallar Kahaar, Swat and Kaghan are the most awaited entertaining events in the college life of the students at Punjab College. During these trips the college arranges for the students sumptuous dinners, exciting bonfires and opportunities to refresh themselves for further studies.

Monthly Tests / Send up

To assess the learning ability of the students on monthly basis, Punjab Colleges have a very disciplined and regular system of monthly tests. The results of these tests are promptly dispatched to the parents.

Similarly, Send up exams are the most momentous academic activity of the session. Through these exams the students get an idea of the board exams and thus prepare themselves for it.

Punjab Colleges’ Libraries

Libraries play a vital role in every educational system, and their importance in modern education is undeniable. They not only consolidate classroom knowledge but give the students opportunities to develop insight, and research-oriented learning.

All campuses of Punjab Colleges have extensive academic libraries. A large variety of periodicals and journals is available in the libraries, along with invaluable books on Information Technology, Business and other elated fields.

Books on Literature, Language, Religion, Philosophy and other disciplines are available in all libraries of Punjab Colleges. All the libraries are air-conditioned and specifically designed.

Faculty members, students and research scholars can borrow library material barring reference books for a period specified for each category. Reference books are to be consulted within the library premises to ensure availability to all students.

Newly-received books are listed on the library notice boards on the last day of each month to inform students of their arrival.

Trained staff is ever-present to assist the students in the use of catalogues, reference books and in searching for any required/relevant information from the library.

For the smooth functioning of the libraries, certain rules and regulations have been chalked out which are to be strictly followed. The library staff is polite and accommodating to the students who in turn are expected to be respectful and co-operative.

All the libraries of PCC/PCS/PCW are in the process of being interlinked shortly through a computer network. It will provide benefits to the large community of PCW/PCS/PCC students by giving them access to a greater number of books.


Punjab Colleges’ Specialities

College Magazines
Each college of the Punjab Group encourages self-expression. The College magazine is the platform for the students to show their creative writing skills. A blend of Urdu and English sections, the magazines welcome contributors who possess a special flair for writing. Young minds provide a provocative panorama of views on diverse issues, ranging from social stagnation to intellectual upheaval. By doing so, they develop confidence and a sense of awareness about unexplored mysteries of the business world. Backed by the Chief Editors, the magazines are largely operated by a number of co-editors, from amongst the student population. The college magazines also echo the academic accomplishments and sports successes in Board and University, thereby keeping the Punjabians abreast of fresh news at all times.

Debating Society
The Debating Society of each College is an integral part of the College co-curricular activities. They help the students polish their intellect and communicative skills, build confidence in public speaking and develop logical though processes.

Sports Center
The College 'Sports Center' is ideally located in the lively area of Model Town. It provides facilities for sports like Badminton, Volleyball, Lawn Tennis as well as Riding and Multi-gym.

Quiz Programs
At the Intermediate level, all the sections are required to participate in Quiz Competitions. Such healthy activities not only sharpen the intellect but also inculcate a sense of confidence in the students.

Sports Gala
Educational institutions not only impart education to students but also mould their personalities as a whole. Annually Punjab Colleges hold sports events which provide athletes opportunities to showcase their abilities. PCC sportsmen have bagged numerous titles and awards in Board and University competitions bringing prestige to the institution.

Punjab College Dramatic Club (PCDC)
The Punjab College Dramatic Club plays a pivotal role in the promotion of extra-curricular pursuits. PCDC provides entertainment by performing genres ranging from classical plays to modern comedies. Through drama, students gain confidence on stage and expose their peers to new worlds of ideas.

Excursion Trips
To lighten the stress of studies, field trips are arranged throughout the academic session. The Colleges arrange air-conditioned coaches for such excursions and special care is taken in reserving comfortable lodging during each stay. Vigilant faculty members accompany the students to supervise the tours and these excursions are highly appreciated not only by students, but by the parents as well.

Functions/Visits
An important milestone at the end of each academic session is the prize distribution ceremony and farewell function. This memorable event reflects the period of hard work and personal development of the outgoing students of PCC. In the company of their families, friends and parents, they celebrate their unforgettable moments. In other activities, students at PCC are encouraged to visit cultural and historical sites. Similarly, throughout the academic session, a variety of social and sports events are arranged. Student Counseling Service

Student life can be rewarding and stimulating but can also have its share of stress. Students who are preoccupied with personal worries may find it hard to concentrate on their studies and may feel isolated and deserted. The counseling services offer support and constructive help when there are problems. The trained and experienced counseling staff is always ready to help students.
Facility of Transport Cards

As our institutions are recognized by all concerned authorities, Punjab Colleges students are entitled to concessions for travel by road, rail and air.
College Transport Facility

The Colleges provide transport facilities to their students on different routes. To avail of this service, they must register at the Transport Office.
Computer and Commerce Education

To compete with the challenges of the 21st Century, the Colleges have introduced Computer Courses to equip the younger generation with basic computer skills at Inter and B.Com levels. These Computer Courses are continually updated to provide students the best technological learning environment. The students of I.Com. and B.Com. are required to complete Basic Computer Courses, though they are not treated as compulsory subjects by the Board or University. It is a big step towards acquiring students with new business information systems. Computer Centers are well equipped with the best teaching facilities.
Liaison with Parents

Students’ attendances are monitored regularly. Each month, the attendance data is fed to the computer and analyzed from different angles. Parents are also informed about their wards' application and are warned against irregular attendance or unseemly behaviour. The data has also been found useful in arriving at academic and administrative decisions. Thus it has been possible to have greater co-operation from the parents in initiating remedial action regarding irregular and erratic students.
Assessment

Students’ academic progress is evaluated through class tests and in-house examinations. Their performance in tests and examinations is computerized and parents of weaker students are informed areas in which they need to improve. Extra coaching is also given to students without any additional charges.
Student Career Advisory Service

Gaining a qualification at the Punjab Colleges open up a range of career options for the students. Those aiming to go abroad for higher studies can seek valuable information and guidance which helps them in making the right decision at the right time. Students securing top positions in F.Sc, I.C.S, I. Com and University examinations are awarded brand new motorbikes or cars. Moreover, they are offered free education in other institutions of Group.

The College offers Merit Scholarship and free education for Academic Brilliance.

All students who have passed Intermediate examination from any of our Colleges get a 25% concession in B.Com. and B.Sc. 50% concession will be given to the kinship cases. 25% concession will be given to the teachers' children. Teachers who are drawing their salaries from the government treasury will get 25% fee concession for their sons/daughters.

The College grants a fee-concession for deserving students at the time of admission. This concession is renewable at the time of every fee installment. Students benefitting from this assistance, must get their concession forms duly signed by the Principal.

Students are eligible for attendance awards and distinction certificates for their punctuality and outstanding performance in different disciplines.

Students are encouraged to participate in sports and co- curricular activities. They can win different medals, shields and cash prizes. Quiz Competitions, Singing Competitions and Debating Contests are regular features of all the Punjab Colleges.

All Boards of Intermediate and Secondary Education, the Regional Directors of Education, and the University of the Punjab announce scholarships and awards for position holders.

There are many more cash prizes for brilliant students in different competitions. For example, in sports competitions, the winning team in a sports event of the University will be awarded a cash prize. Similarly, in Board Competition events, a “Winning Team" from our College will get a cash prize.
