YES Meeting

YES Meeting was born in 2006 as a result of a pioneer idea of a student from the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Porto. His goal was to gather students from the biomedical areas as well as professional researchers from reference centers and give them the opportunity to compare and discuss their works.
The main goal of this project has been ever since to provide students the feeling that their work is not only given the proper value but also recognition from the scientific world. Hence motivate them to do research work.
Since its first edition, the congress has been growing and in the last years we can say that it has taken off. This grow is observed not only in the participants number but also in international recognition by important entities such as IFMSA (International Federation of Medical Students’ Associations) which made YES Meeting their official meeting.
In what concerns to the scientific program, the meeting includes:
1. Simposiums held by worldwide known scientists from the most important research centers in the world;
2.Presentations by students of their research works made in their own faculties on the themes: Neurosciences, Immunology & Physiology, Oncology & Molecular Biology, Internal Medicine and Surgery;
3.Interactive workshops on multiple themes relation both to basic medicine like human anatomy, obesity, diabetes and clinical medicine such as Eye Surgery, Laparoscopic Surgery, Hematology, Bioengineering among many others.
Besides the scientific aspect, there is also a social programme which includes a guided visit to the historic sights of Porto city a other places with turistic interest. It is given the opportunity to the participants to taste the traditional Portuguese cuisine and there is a night reserved to a concert of Tunas Académicas da Faculdade de Medicina as well as Grupo de Fados in order to promote Fado, recently considered Intangible Cultural Heritage.
Finally, the meeting comes to an end with a farewell dinner in which the prizes of best research works are given to the students.
